Senior Section

Age group

A young woman may belong to the Senior Section from the age of 14 to 26. The Senior Section includes:

  • Ranger Guides
  • Young Leaders
  • Advisers and Commissioners who are aged under 26
  • Junior Council members

Programme

Senior Section members plan their own activities with assistance from their leaders. They can participate in a programme called 'Look Wider', which holds a wide range of challenges and opportunities and offers fun and flexibility to suit the individual. It can be worked on alone or as part of a group. Look Wider is linked to a variety of recognised qualifications or awards, both within and outside guiding. The programme is based around eight areas:

  • Creativity
  • Fit for Life
  • Community Action
  • Out-of-doors
  • International
  • Independant Living
  • Personal Values
  • Leadership

Promise

All members of Girlguiding UK and members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in a large number of countries make a promise.

The Senior Section Promise is:

I promise that I will do my best,
to love my God,
to serve the Queen and my country,
to help other people,
to keep the Guide Law and to be of service to the community.

Uniform

Most members wear a uniform appropriate to the group to which they belong, or wear clothing suitable for the activity in which they are participating. There is a wide range available to choose from. See our shop page for more information.
