Brownies are aged between seven and ten, although some Brownies stay in the unit until they are a little bit older. Any girl in this age group can become a Brownie.
Brownies take part in indoor and outdoor activities that encourage them to do their best. Their meetings are action-packed and full of challenges, games and activities chosen by the Brownies themselves.
Brownies work in small teams called 'Sixes'. This gives each girl a group of ready-made friends and makes her feel that she belongs to something special. Many Brownie Packs go away on holiday, to camp or on an overnight sleepover.
All members of Girlguiding UK and members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in a large number of countries make a promise.
I promise that I will do my best
to love my God,
to serve the Queen and my country,
to help other people
to keep the Brownie Guide Law.
There is a wide range of specially designed Brownie clothes which are stylish, practical and economical. Each Brownie chooses what she wants to wear. This allows Brownies to be themselves but also makes them feel part of the group. See our shop page for more information.
